Building Campaign

I was encouraged by how many of you attended the building project meeting and by how many of you are also excited about the possibility of a new home for our church. I realize that not everyone will be enthusiastic, and some may need more time to process things. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions.

If you didn’t attend the meeting, please review the recap.

In this newsletter, I want to encourage us to do three things:

Pray:
I believe everyone should commit to praying for God’s discernment in this process. If this is not God’s will, pray that he will make it abundantly clear. If it is, pray that he makes that obvious. Right now, it seems like a decommissioned LDS meetinghouse is the best option, but that will require several things to happen that are outside of our control. We would need one to go for sale nearby, we would need to have the money to put in an offer, and we would need that offer to be accepted. Will you pray that God would work out all those details if this is his will for JVC?

Make a pledge:
It’s my hope that 90% of our members will pledge something. Even if individuals can’t give substantially, we want to see that our church believes in this collectively. We will need to raise money from outside as well; if our congregation is committed to the work, donors will see we aren’t just looking for a handout. So, even if you don’t think you can give very much, would you consider making a pledge to the project?

Consider making a sacrificial pledge:
My hope is that many of us will make a pledge that is a bit of a stretch. When Lisa and I discussed it, we decided that we wanted to make a sacrifice; we felt it was important to show that we believe in this. The elders and deacons had the same attitude, and we raised just over $125,000 in pledges. We want to lead by example. I suspect many of us could find ways to do some extra work or make certain cuts so that we can give a larger amount for three years. The goal is an average household pledge of $235 a month, which I believe is reasonable for many. Some households could give much more than that, while for others, less would still represent a significant sacrifice. However, I believe this is an attainable goal for our church collectively.

When you are ready, you can make your pledge here. We want to have all pledges collected by July 12. You can fulfill this pledge any time between now and June 2029. You can make the payments each month, in periodic gifts, or whatever way works for you.

When you give, make sure you note the giving is for the building campaign fund so it will be properly tracked.

In Christ,
Pastor Jon
