Giving Thanks This Summer
I’m always a bit bummed by how quickly summer goes by. When you’re a kid summer break feels like a lifetime; as an adult you blink and miss it. But this year, as summer wraps up and kids are back in school, I feel a profound sense of gratitude.
I’m thankful that we could take a number of trips this summer. I’ve started counting down how many summers we have left ‘til our kids likely move out—it comes too quickly! I find myself thankful for each day we have together.
I’m thankful for the many good things happening at JVC. The way that God provided with our building fund comes first to mind. I’m thankful for how he worked in the hearts of the people at JVC. I’m thankful for how he seems to be opening other doors as well. Last week a group of us met with representatives from the LDS church to talk about possibly purchasing one of their buildings in the area. Nothing is certain, but they seem to be willing to let us know about any they plan to sell over the next couple of years.
For a long time I’ve dreamed and prayed that JVC would become a church that produces more than it consumes. That we would have the people, ministry leaders and financial resources to be a blessing to the greater church. Certainly we’ve done this in some ways throughout the years, but what most excites me about a new building is that I believe it could enable us to regularly send those resources outside of our church to bless the kingdom.
I’m thankful for the people God is bringing. Summer always brings some new visitors, and it's a blessing to have people move into the area who are eager to jump in and serve. I’m also thankful for those who’ve been coming who are exploring the Christian faith. I’ve always wanted JVC to be a church that helps to expand God’s kingdom through helping people come to faith and grow into maturity.
What are some of the things you are thankful for?
We are entering into a busy season, but my heart is full and excited for what is to come. I hope you are excited as well.
